Yamaha FZ 150

After the big news of the upcoming launch of the Yamaha YZF-R15, almost nothing else seems worth waiting for – and then you see the Yamaha FZ 150 cc motorcycle. You can see the official photo f the FZ 150 above - you know what I am talking about.

More than a decade back, I rode around on the streets f Mumbai, shit-scared, on a BMW F650 Funduro. The bike cost more than Rs 4 lakhs, and was an unqualified disaster when it came to sales. But it had a stance which reminded Mumbaikars of a stallion. Crowds gathered wherever I parked it.

The Yamaha FZ revealed for the first time at Auto Expo 2008 – they call it a prototype – reminded me of the F650 with its color scheme and upright stance. But the FZ looks more modern for sure. Yamaha says that the FZ 150 is just a prototype. Nobody in the motoring press believes them. Chances are, this 150 cc air-cooled motorcycle will make it into production towards the end of 2008.

You have basically the same engine as the YZF-R15 Yamaha on the Yamaha FZ 150, but this is more a road-and-track motorcycle than the YZF, which has racing pretensions even in the 150 cc guise.

BMW Announces Availability of the HP2 Sport in the U.S.A.May 9, 2008 - The BMW HP2 Sport has arrived at U.S. BMW motorcycle retailers. The same high-performance sport bike that Richard Cooper and Brian Parriott rode to fifth and sixth place finishes in last month's Daytona 200 is now available in limited supplies for serious motorcycle enthusiasts. The high-performance (HP) two (2)-cylinder Boxer -- customized to meet the requirements of the ambitious sport rider -- has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $25,375 (excluding taxes, license, options, and handling charge).
The sportiest, most powerful and lightest Boxer ever manufactured, the HP2 Sport features numerous exclusive details, previously restricted to racing, that were never before seen in series production vehicles. Technology such as the self-supporting and aerodynamically optimized fairings made completely of carbon fiber, the quick shifter, a dashboard similar to that used in the MotoGP, the forged aluminum wheels and brakes with radially bolted calipers make the HP2 unmistakably athletic on both country roads or the racing circuit.
The most striking difference between the BMW HP2 Sport from the earlier endurance racing Boxer is the brand new cylinder heads: each of the double overhead camshafts (DOHC) uses a drag lever to actuate the valves that are larger than those on the BMW R 1200 S.
Further modifications, such as the flow-optimized intake and outlet, new forged pistons and adapted connecting rod, help the engine to achieve the necessary higher output compared to the basic engine. A new stainless steel exhaust system is placed below the engine for the first time, keeping the lower area of the motorcycle extremely slim for greater freedom of movement for a "hanging off" riding position.
Although designed for racing prowess, the BMW HP2 Sport does not forego the safety benefits of ABS. A sophisticated anti-blocking system, specially adapted to the HP2 Sport, is available as an option and is configured so that it can be deactivated for the racetrack.
Following the BMW Motorrad Motorsport design, the HP2 Sport features white lacquering on the windshield, rear, mudguard and side cover. The engine spoiler carries the two-tone "HP2" lettering; and the lattice frame and wheels are lacquered in the BMW Motorrad color of Motorsport Blue.

Features : DUCATI SPORT TOURING.

In response to massive public demand the three-valve per cylinder engine takes centre stage in the ST range for the 2006 M.Y. The standard version is thus joined by the ST3s ABS, in place of the previous ST4s, the flagship of this family up to the end of last season. This means that the price list is simplified, with two versions offering the original equipment package plus a series of major innovations. The 2006 model is equipped with a new automatic idle speed control system and, above all, features Euro 3 homologation in compliance with future emission control regulations. This major breakthrough, which anticipates the date of enforcement of the more stringent emission limits by more than twelve months, was achieved by adopting an integrated ignition, injection and exhaust system, with a special 3-way catalytic converter and heated Lambda oxygen sensor. Thanks to this design strategy, the ST3 and ST3s ABS machines scheduled to roll of the lines at the Ducati Borgo Panigale plant will be among the world's first bikes to comply with the emission limits due to take effect on 1 January 2007, so they can be ridden even in cities that restrict non-complying vehicles. The evolution of the injection and ignition system, combined with automatic idle speed control, are among the most recent milestones in a continuous process of updating a range of machines specifically designed for touring enthusiasts seeking comfort and a high level of protection from the elements without sacrificing performance muscle. The earlier editions had already received various modifications designed to meet the more practical needs of a Sport Touring machine. For example, the wet clutch, which is smoother, quieter and more progressive than the unit installed on more highly tuned Ducati motorcycles while also offering much longer than average service life; in addition, a large number of updates have been made to the machine with the aim of optimising the level of protection and, consequently, the overall comfort on long high-speed journeys.Evolved and further refined with each new edition, the Sport Touring range achieves perfect balance with the arrival of the three-valve per cylinder engine, as demonstrated by the fact that this twin cylinder powerplant won immediate approval from the market thanks to its broad flat torque curve and low fuel consumption. The state of the art achieved since 1997 when the first ST was unveiled is such that Ducati has been able to attain a position of excellence in a segment in which rival motorcycle makers can boast many years more experience than the Bologna company. The current high standing on the touring market is largely due to Ducati's reinterpretation of the sports touring motorcycle and the implementation of a number of innovative devices. Consider, for example, the many adjustment facilities on the machine including the position of the handlebars, electronic control of the headlight beam angle and two alternative positions for the exhaust system. The two tailpipes can be mounted in a low-slung position so that the machine can be equipped with a pair of panniers, or in a raised position to increase the lean angle for riders seeking extreme lean angles. There are also many apparently minor aspects, such as the simplified fitting system for the fairings, which reduces times and costs for servicing and repair work, and management of the electronic system with a CAN line, with the network carried on just two wires in place of the classic harness.ST3The ST3 is the ideal solution for demanding tourism riders who instead of being contented with the classic "German style" of touring, insist on the typical verve of an Italian machine. In addition to the high level of protection, the careful attention devoted to ergonomics and the sophisticated chassis, riders can rely on an engine that has been specifically designed to reconcile several extremely divergent riding characteristics. The adoption of desmodromic timing with three valves per cylinder and dual spark ignition has made it possible to obtain the power needed to achieve an impressive level of performance while simultaneously keeping a tight check on fuel consumption. And these benefits are obtained in an environmentally friendly manner, as evident by the Euro3 homologation, which was gained well before the deadlines envisaged by the standards.StyleThe design of the ST Ducati strove to reconcile various contrasting aspects, one of which was related to the management of overall dimensions. In this context, it was important to offer the necessary protection for the rider and passenger, while simultaneously maintaining a slender profile of the machine to avoid negative effects on agility and a reduction of the sports capabilities of this model. The solution was arrived at with a carefully calibrated blend of elegant lines and functional features designed to meet aerodynamic requirements. The ST3 is therefore the perfect long-distance machine for all the typical touring situations, while still being suitable for other types of use, from busy city streets to the race circuit.ChassisThe ST3 was born to travel, but a pure Ducati heart throbs just under the skin, and the design project was conducted with a constant eye on the sports aspect. Consequently one of the defining aspects of Ducati's DNA has been retained in the form of the high strength tubular steel trellis frame present in all the families, including the Desmosedici of MotoGP world championship fame. The steel trellis frame is a technological aspect in which Ducati has acquired an enviable level of experience that makes it possible to obtain a fitting response for all riding styles. Among the acknowledged benefits of this solution it's worth recalling the reduced weight and high level of stiffness, both of which characteristics bring clear benefits to both solo riding at high speed and long trips with a passenger and a full load of luggage. Of course, the Ducati Sport Touring machine makes it easy to find the perfect setup for all types of trips thanks to the use of highly versatile front and rear suspensions. The front end is equipped with a Showa fork with adjustable preload, while the rear of the bike is mounted on a Sachs monoshock with full preload and hydraulic damping adjustments.PowerplantAlmost two years ago a new family of engines was launched to join the universally acclaimed Desmodue and Desmoquattro: the Desmotre. This powerplant is the product of the very latest engineering techniques and offers an intermediate solution between the classic air-cooled two-valves per cylinder twins and the more sports oriented four-valve engines. With its three valves per cylinder the new engine lies at the mid point in terms of cylinder head valve arrangement, although it manages to condense the qualities of the other engines in relation to the low fuel consumption and flexibility of the simpler versions and the power output of the more sophisticated models. Right from the time of its launch the Desmotre had all the necessary credentials for Euro2 homologation and today, with the 2006 model, the ST3 is one of the first production machines to offer even lower exhaust emission levels. This goal was achieved thanks to the adoption of an integrated ignition, injection and exhaust system with a special three-way catalytic converter and heated Lambda oxygen sensor. Another important breakthrough is constituted by the addition of automatic idle speed control provided by a stepper motor, which consequently eliminates the need for manual activation of the choke lever. The benefits of the three-valve cylinder head, which features desmodromic control in compliance with Ducati tradition, include plenty of torque at low engine speeds and fuel consumption that is among the lowest in the category (typical of 2-valve engines) combined with high power throughout the engine speed range (typical of 4-valve engines). In this context it should be noted that numerous components were designed specifically with the aim of extending the interval between servicing times as far as possible. As in the case of the specifically designed wet clutch, which, apart from featuring quieter operation, offers exceptional resistance to wear to provide an estimated lifetime in excess of 100,000 kilometres.Chassis:Frame: Tubular steel trellisWheelbase: 1430 mm / 56.3 inRake: 24°Front Suspension: Showa 43 mm upside-down adjustable preload forkFront Wheel Travel: 130 mm / 5.1 inFront Brake: 2 x 320 mm semi-floating discs, 4-piston caliperFront Wheel: 3-spoke light alloy 3.50 x 17Front Tire: 120/70 ZR 17Rear Suspension: Progressive linkage with fully adjustable Sachs monoshockRear Wheel Travel: 148 mm / 5.8 inRear Brake: 245 mm disc, 2-piston caliperRear Wheel: 3-spoke light alloy 5.50 x 17Rear Tire: 180/55 ZR 17Fuel Capacity: 21 L / 5.5 US gal (includes 6 L / 1.5 US gal reserve)Weight * : 203 kg / 447.1 lbsSeat Height: 820 mm / 32.3 inInstruments: Electronic instrument panel using CAN communication protocol with CPU, multifunctional digital display (including speedometer, clock, water temperature, fuel gauge, instant/average consumption, consumed fuel, residual autonomy), analog rev counter, self-adjusting instrument lights (depending on outdoor light), headlight angle adjustment, immobilizer systemWarranty: 2 years unlimited mileageTank and Fairing Colours: Red, Glossy Black, SilverFrame and Wheel Colours: Metallic Grey (on Red and Silver) - Black w/Metallic Grey wheels (on Black)Versions: Two Seats*=* = The weight excludes battery, lubricants and, where applicable, cooling liquid.Engine:Type: L-twin cylinder, 3 valves per cylinder Desmodromic; liquid cooledDisplacement: 992 ccBore and stroke: 94 x 71.5 mmCompression Ratio: 11.3:1Power: 78.8 kw - 107 hp @ 8750 rpmTorque: 10 kgm - 72 ft-lbs @ 7250 rpmFuel system: Marelli electronic fuel injection, 50 mm throttle bodyExhaust: 2 aluminum mufflers with catalytic converterEmissions: Euro2TransmissionGearbox: 6 speedRatio: 1st 37/15, 2nd 30/17, 3rd 27/20, 4th 24/22, 5th 23/24, 6th 24/28Primary drive: Straight cut gears; ratio 1.84Final drive: Chain; Front sprocket 15; Rear sprocket 42Clutch: Wet multiplate with hydraulic controlArticle Source: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/

2006 Ducatu GT1000 : The Classic Styling Modern Te

In the 1970s, sport riders were modifying their street bikes with some of what they saw being used on the racetrack, including clip-on handlebars, rear set footpegs, and ‘fast’ colours. This was done just as much for the look as for increased performance. The Ducati SportClassic family, which includes the Paul Smart 1000 Limited Edition, the Sport 1000 and the GT 1000, reflects the styling of the motorcycles built in Ducati's workshops in the 1970's, characterised by a minimalist racing look, with exposed chassis and engines, complimented by bodywork with elegant rounded shapes.Even though they reflect the best of the past, they incorporate the latest Ducati technology and engineering, creating a thoroughly modern motorcycle that lives up to today's standards of road-going performance. 2009-Ducati Monster 696 Motorcycle

The Ducati Monster 696 marks the union of trademark Ducati reliability and speed with modern technology to provide you with a biking experience next to none. The newer version maintains all the famed details one would associate with a Ducati while adding newer muscular ergonomics and designs. The bike is powered by a fabulous 120 Hp two cylinder based Ducati engine and makes use of large diameter tubes inspired by the MotoGP winning model of 2007. The bike also comes with Ducati Data Analyser that helps you calculate details such as your engine rpm and engine temperature data in an external card, which can then be used to review your bike’s performance on your PC.DesignRefined style and design are the clear motivations behind the new Monster and the continued perfection of the Desmo engine ensures that its "saint and sinner" image will impress any rider.
A comfortable and confidence-inspiring chassis combine with the powerful Ducati L-Twin engine to provide what should be a most enjoyable riding experience. The balance of new technologies expressed in stylishly finished materials is shaped around the original cool Monster heritage.
Maintaining its traditional Monster silhouette, the 696 now looks more muscular. Its wide tank tapers to a thin waistline of what Ducati says is a comfortable narrow seat, which should ensure sure-footed confidence when at the traffic lights.
The large diameter Hybrid Trellis frame blends stylishly into an aluminum sub-frame and swingarm while minimalist instrumentation and simple controls at the front of the Monster contrast with twin, bold, Ducati-style mufflers at the rear to enhance its urban-ready image.
With a fuel tank form created with ingenious removable outer skins that enable quick and easy color swaps, changing the personality of the Monster has never been easier. The quickly removable rear seat cover makes it even easier to completely color coordinate and, when removed, reveals a place for your favorite passenger.
The Cult of the MonsterThe Monster is the original "naked" motorcycle. Launched to rave reviews in the early ‘90s, it immediately created a devoted following and became a cult motorcycle. With its fully exposed engine and "less is more" minimalist attitude, the Monster delivers style and real sport bike performance.
It has defined the class and become the bike of choice for top designers, Hollywood stars and Formula One racing drivers alike while creating a unique motorcycle lifestyle that is accessible to everyone.ChassisThe 696 ergonomics have been improved with subtle but effective changes to the riding position. A shorter reach to the bars and a slightly lower, more forward foot peg position, together with the lowest seat height of any Ducati and a reduction in weight, empowers any rider to become the master of this Monster.
The chassis of the new Monster is made up of a new Hybrid Trellis frame with larger diameter tubes directly inspired by the 2007 World MotoGP title-winning Desmosedici GP7 machine. To this is attached a rear aluminum sub-frame.
The front brake system is the envy of its class and becomes the new benchmark for the category with two 320 mm discs and four-piston radial calipers.
At the rear, the dual-sided aluminum swingarm draws inspiration from Ducati Corse’s finest racing products in this area. The instrumentation is now totally digital and continues the tradition of all Ducati’s latest-generation hypersport models, guaranteeing lightness, ease of use and a wealth of information.
The new exhaust system stands out for its re-routed down pipes that now give the underside of the Monster a cleaner appearance and terminate with twin, bold Ducati-style mufflers.
The headlamp unit is characterized by a new triple arc main beam, while the rear light uses modern LED technology. The unmistakable tank boasts ingenious removable outer skins which makes it easy to change the personality of the Monster 696.
In line with the latest-generation Ducatis, the new Monster 696 has undergone a weight reduction of 5kg from the previous model and now becomes the lightest bike in its category (359 lbs – 163 Kg).EngineThe engine of the new 696 is an evolution of the previous 695 version. Measuring 696cc, it boasts a series of updates and refinements.
Power output gets a 9% boost to 80 hp (59 kW) and an 11% increase in torque to 50.6 lb-ft. This new engine continues to have the best horsepower per liter ratio of all Ducati’s air-cooled units, and it ensures a smooth and powerful delivery for a relaxed but thrilling ride in all conditions.
This increase in power has been achieved by the introduction of new cylinder heads, which are now similar to those fitted on the 1100 2V engine fitted to the Multistrada and Hypermotard. Bore and stroke remain identical to the previous 695 model at 88 x 57.2 mm, but the pistons and combustion chamber have been revised to optimize the fluid dynamics of the new ports.
The camshafts now rotate on bearing surfaces directly in the cylinder head and are supported by means of oil pressure. The elimination of the bearings has enabled the weight of this unit to be reduced considerably and the layout simplified.
Furthermore the cooling fins of the cylinders and the cylinder heads have a new shape, and an improved casting process allows them to be produced closer to one another so as to increase their number and improve thermal exchange.
Like its predecessor, the new Monster 696 has an advanced APTC clutch, which makes down-shifting safe and helps keep the clutch lever action light and easy, especially in urban riding where frequent stops require high use.
Like every bike in the new range, the Monster 696 also has a new scheduled maintenance program that reduces costs for the customer.
